“Meditation is not an escape from life; it is a deeper encounter with life itself.”
“The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts; it’s to stop letting them control you.”
“The powers of the mind are like the rays of the sun when concentrated; they illumine.” — Swami Vivekananda
An honest mind sleeps peacefully, for it has nothing to hide.
According to Patanjali Yoga, the mind is like a clear crystal. A crystal appears to take on the color of whatever is placed near it, yet its own nature remains unchanged. Similarly, the mind assumes the form of the objects, thoughts, and experiences that come before it.
When the mind is focused on an object, that object becomes known. When it is not in contact with an object, the object remains unknown. Thus, knowledge arises when the mind is “colored” by what it perceives.
The mind is constantly changing as it reflects different thoughts and experiences. However, behind these changes is the unchanging Witness—the Self (Purusha)—which observes all mental modifications without being affected by them.
Meditation helps us recognize this distinction, leading us from the restless movements of the mind to the peace of pure awareness.
